stay here, not alone.

On the road, so I'm actually updating this from my phone. First time! It's surprisingly pleasant. I've also got a few hundred words of cellphone novel written, which I think is also a pretty interesting medium.

Anyway, today I'm talking about the game I've been playing, Space Invaders Infinity Gene. Also very good! And it's for the iPhone, so I thought it would be appropriate for my current update. Anyway, it's space invaders redone as a modern shooting game. I'm quite impressed with Taito. They could have just slapped some new graphics in, but instead they have this stunning and stylish game that stands on its own while remaining an homage to the founder of its genre. Bravo. Go buy it.

The most surprising thing, and maybe the best, is the "music mode", in which the game creates a custom stage from a track on your iPhone. I picked "power of dream" by IOSYS, and the generated stage flowed along surprisingly well. The track plays along while you shoot, and the bullets and explosions fit the rhythm perfectly. It was nice.

It's funny, ZUN alluded to something similar in an interview a while back, talking about how he writes the music, the programs the stage to go with it. And ZUN works for Taito. Hmm.

I don't really think he's involved. I don't even know if he still works there. But it's funny how these connections come up.
