Sometimes we don't think things through completely, or even minimally. Last week we got called on it. Quite the embarrassment -- doubly so because I still have trouble believing that people read this thing.
See, a year ago, Jeff and I wrote an
article for Fanime. The theme was "praise disguised as insult," and I thought it worked rather well. I mean, we went in with some minor jabs and used that as a framing device to look at how the con was, overall,
rather well-run.
But we had a throwaway line about how we could have used more support from the press staff, and, when Milton Le of Fanime's PR staff asked about it, we didn't have a shred of supporting detail, although we doubtless had something on our minds at the time. (It was also probably trivial.)
Jeff and I have apologized. We're going to move on and attempt to do better in the future. Note that this does not mean that we will cease to complain about things -- only that we will complain in a more detailed, focused,
helpful fashion.
